4 REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD START YOUR OWN BUSINESS

4 REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD START YOUR OWN BUSINESS
Transcripts from Radio Business School-2nd July 2012

Good morning listeners, You are welcome to the maiden broadcast of Radio Business school; a weekly business coaching and Enterprise development session on RADIO NIGERIA 101.5 Bronze FM, that is designed to offer you business and work related tips and strategies required to successfully start and manage your own business.
My name is Basola Victor, and I will be your host on this programme. Today I will be speaking on what I title ‘FOUR REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD START YOUR OWN BUSINESS’.

I will like to begin with a touching story;

Jude Okoye got to his office on Monday morning beaming with smiles, he had just acquired a new car loan he took from his company but not to worry, it will be deducted from his salary for the next two years. Still smiling, he checked with his secretary for regular internal mails only to get a letter from his Boss.

 ”Dear Jude Okoye,

Due to the economic challenges we are facing right now we would no longer be needing your services. Please see the accountant for your pay off advice which includes a FULL DEDUCTION OF YOUR CAR LOAN. Endeavour to hand over the keys of your apartment in the next 3days. Thanks for your efforts so far and I wish you success in your future endeavour.

Warm regards
MR ABC
XYZ Bank PLC.

The letter sent shocking waves down to his spine, he had not prepared for this, he had just been FIRED with a wife and two children to feed and clothe; he was DEVASTATED.

Three things will eventually happen to you on the corporate Ladder, you will either be FIRED, RETIRED, or you will RESIGN. The question is “are you prepared for that moment”? Or are you putting all your eggs in pension or RETIREMENT BENEFIT. This brings me to the first reason you should start your own business.

THE WEALTHIEST MEN IN THE WORLD ARE ENTREPRENEURS

The likes of Carlos Slim Helu, Warren Buffet, Bill Gates, Otunba Mike Adenuga, Aliko Dangote, Jimoh Ibrahim and our own Chief Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion are all entrepreneurs. Entrepreneurship is the only guaranteed vehicle for financial independence. Your SALARY alone cannot make you rich except you channel it into a vehicle that ensures multiple streams of income.

ENTREPRENEURSHIP ALLOWS YOU TO TAP INTO YOUR UNIQUE GIFTS AND POTENTIALS.

Most of us are in jobs we do not like or not skilled for and have no passion for but we are glued to it because of the fear of the unknown. The best kind of job is one that allows you to enjoy yourself (allows you to do what you love) and you are being paid for enjoying yourself’. DO NOT KILL THE SPIRIT OF CREATIVITY IN YOU, “Wealth flows in the direction of value and creating value is solving people’s problems with your unique talent, skills and potentials”.
ENTREPRENEURSHIP GIVES YOU A LEGACY TO PASS ON TO YOUR CHILDREN.
“A good man leaveth an inheritance for his children’s children”. No matter how good you are in your current job and no matter how high you climb you cannot pass your position to your children. You can only pass on your farmland to your children. You cannot pass another man’s farm land to your own children. When you create a vehicle of multiple income in your lifetime, not only will you benefit from it, it will also guarantee a platform for your children. There is nothing like job security anywhere.
Only a generation or two ago, going into business for yourself was considered as risky and the safest route was to get a good job in a large firm. Now, working for a traditional corporation has become the risk while owning your own business has become the new job security. Know this, “you can be fired from your own job but you can never be fired from your skill”.
GOD COMMANDED US TO BE BUSINESS OWNERS.

And that ye study to be quiet, and to DO YOUR OWN BUSINESS, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you; That ye may walk honestly toward them that are without, and that ye may have lack of nothing.  (1st Thessalonians 4; 11-12)

It is a commandment from God the author of Life and immortality that we should do business so that we could lack nothing. If you study the scriptures carefully you would discover that all the fathers of faith were all entrepreneurs. Abraham had a cattle ranch, Jacob was a shepherd, and Paul was a Tent builder. Going into business for yourself would actually give you the time and resources you need to serve God like you really wish.

There is no limit to how much better your life can be, it is totally up to you. Do not wait for everything to be right before you start. Amazingly, what we see as obstacles actually become stepping stone when we decide to step out. If you be bold enough to step out you will be amazed at how opportunities will show up to launch you forward.
